What this feature is for
Free text lets you add notes directly onto an entity structure view.
This can be useful when you want to:
- Explain a specific ownership setup
- Add context that is not obvious from the structure alone
- Clarify how you interpret control or decision-making
- Prepare a cleaner export for internal or external stakeholders
Important to know
Before you start, keep these points in mind:
- Free text can only be added in a view
- It does not work in the master structure
- Text is saved separately for each view
- If you add text in one view, it will not appear in other views automatically
- Free text added to a view can also appear when you export that view
How to add free text to an entity structure
- Open the relevant company and go to Legal entity structure
- Open the view where you want to add the text
- Enter edit mode
- Add a free text element to the structure
- Double-click the text box and type your note
- Drag the text box to the position where you want it to appear on the structure
What you can do with the text box
Once the text box has been added, you can customize it in several ways:
- Move it anywhere within the view
- Add multiple lines of text
- Create larger text blocks when more explanation is needed
- Add a border
- Add a background
- Adjust it so the text is easier to read in the final export
Show or hide text boxes
Text boxes are treated like other elements in the view.
This means you can manage them from the list of structure elements and:
- Show them when needed
- Hide them when you want a cleaner version of the view
This is useful if you want to maintain different versions of the same structure for different audiences.
Example use cases
You can use free text to add notes such as:
- Explanations about ownership or control
- Notes on why a board is treated as the controlling party
- Clarifications where there is no UBO above a given threshold
- Context for internal reviewers or external recipients
Best practice
Use free text for short, helpful explanations that make the structure easier to understand.
If a note is only relevant for one audience or export scenario, add it to a dedicated view rather than the master structure.
FAQ
Does free text change the underlying structure?
No. Free text helps explain the structure visually in a specific view, but it does not change the underlying entity data.
Will the same text appear in all views?
No. Free text is view-specific and must be added separately in each view where you want it to appear.
Can I export the text together with the structure?
Yes. Free text added to the view can appear when you export that view.
